Gainsborough Old Hall - 15th July 2023
Despite the weather forecast predicting showers throughout the day, 20 members of the LLMC Classic Section attended the show with their classic vehicles and their attendance was rewarded by there being only one shower of any consequence after all.
Marshalling of the vehicles into position was expertly carried out by Terry Willey and Graham Pearson
The members’ classic vehicles were displayed on the well kept lawns surrounding the Old Hall which is a fine example of a Tudor Mansion dating back to 1460
Members took advantage of the catering facilities in the Old Hall and the complimentary entry to the Hall to learn about its interesting history. Some members ventured into nearby Gainsborough town centre for a little retail therapy.
While sitting with their vehicles, members were able to meet and chat to several of the Old Hall’s visitors.
A pleasant day was had by all.

Winterton Show - 1st & 2nd July 2023

The Winterton Agricultural Society's 151st annual WINTERTON SHOW took place at the 32 acre permanent showground on Saturday and Sunday July 1st & 2nd. 2023.
Terry Willey and I set-up the boundary markers of the Classic Car Display's site on Friday. Terry was joined on Saturday and Sunday by Jason Wray when they did a brilliant job as marshals. All entrants were in place as the crowds started walking into the Show from the Free on-site car parks. Thanks also to Mark White for previously storing the club's posts and ropes and his assistance on the day
Many favourable comments were made about the smooth organisation on the static display site. The Sunday's Cavalcade, when entrant's drove across the showground to display their classics in the Show-ground's Main Ring, was enthusiastically received as the Show's commentator Amanda Stockdale announced the vehicles. After circling the ring and forming into a single line, several owners were interviewed about their gleaming examples of marques from the 1930s onwards. After a further drive, the classics exited the Main Ring and received rosettes as they approached the static display area.
Unknown to me, a person in the ringside crowd took the photo of my 1952 Jowett Javelin as my wife Patricia and I drove towards the ring's exit. Seen following immediately behind is the immaculate 1920s Rolls Royce
The Show each day was packed full of interest with events in the Main Ring, the Second Ring, and side shows throughout the show-ground. Saturday's programme included Shire Horses, cattle, sheep, Scurry Racing, and a Wildlife Display. The Float Parade was led by The Humberside Fire and Rescue Band through Winterton into the Main Ring for judging. A vintage tractor display was followed by the fantastic Little Imps Motorbike Stunt Team.
On Sunday from 9a.m. to noon, a School's Football Tournament took place, also an Official 10 Mile road Race started and finished in the Main Ring with a significant prize to anyone breaking the course record. Horse and pony jumping continued from Saturday, whilst the Fun Dog Show attracted record entries. The Lincoln Long Wool Sheep 'Young Handlers Competition' was keenly watched in a side arena until the Judge announced the awards.
The Fairground, a record number of Trade Stands, stalls for a dozen charities, 'Small Business' exhibits, The R.E.M.E. display, a bar and popular music daily from a different bands, all added to a successful and enjoyable weekend, topped-off by the 'Flyover' each day by a Hurricane of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight from Coningsby.

Doddington Hall - 14th May 2023
Driving over the Lincolnshire Wolds en route to Doddington Hall low cloud made for poor visibility. At one point the fog glowed yellow to either side and I realised I was passing oil seed rape fields in full flower – very surreal.
By 10.30am the sun really was coming out and for the rest of the day we enjoyed warm weather for a change. Members gathered together in various sized groups to enjoy a good catchup with friends they probably hadn't seen since last year. I believe we had 23 cars on show over the day. Three more unfortunately broke down on the way but such was the determination of two of their drivers to get to Doddington once their cars were recovered and safely back home they turned up in alternative transport.. The third couple had to wait a little longer for their MGB to be recovered so they had a picnic in a lay by – the joys of classic motoring. Other members, both new and old, for various reasons turned up without their classics.
Thanks to the two Terrys for their Marshalling duties and to all who made the effort to support this event. Two Membership Forms were given out to potential new members.

The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft - 30th April 2023

We were lucky! Members of the Club's Classic Section enjoyed a dry, warm and at times sunny Bank Holiday Sunday for our visit.
​
Of course there was plenty of chat about our cars amongst Club members, and numerous welcome questions from other visitors, or tales related from times past of having owned the same models. With a cafe near at hand, also a shop and several interesting exhibits such as cycles and a post-war fully furnished 1940s 'pre-fab house, there was plenty to see at the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft. Yes it is a museum, but not in the sense of a single building with artefacts one may not touch.

Our members displayed their classic cars on a grassed area in the centre of the large site, around which several historic trolleybuses from the 1940s and 50s were running throughout the day. They may formerly have been running on systems in Huddersfield, London , Bradford, Reading etc, and be painted in colours unique to their towns or cities. When we sat upstairs on a 'Double Decker' ready to set off, we heard the conductor shout "Hold tight please!" prior to ringing the bell to tell the driver to start off. Just like old times for those old enough to remember, and quite a surprise to those younger!

In the early afternoon the Management halted the trolleybuses for 30 minutes and invited owners to drive around the museum's roadway followed by a line-up in the main square for a photo opportunity. It was amazing to see so many enthusiasts come forward with sophisticated cameras or ubiquitous smartphones.

It was soon time for another 'cuppa' and, in the case of one member who shall not be named, an opportunity to eat two pies! It was a good day out. Many thanks to Terry Willey our Chief Events Marshal, and to Graham Pearson for his assistance..
